Battery design is a particularly specialized skill set. It combines physical design of the cell components with specifics of cell materials. It requires detailed knowledge of battery materials, their construction and details of processing.

This includes:
Lead-acid batteries – These include flooded, maintenance free, AGM and Gel batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries – These include the basic lithium-ion batteries including lithium cobalt oxide (LCO), lithium iron phosphate (LFP), lithium manganese oxide (LMO), lithium nickel manganese cobalt (NMC), lithium nickel cobalt aluminum (NCA), and lithium nickel cobalt oxide (NCO).
